The Zigeuner Gipsy Tarot is also known as the Gipsy Tarot Tsigane. Artist Walter Wegmüller displays a whimsical art style with bright colors and non-traditional symbols. People are given triangular faces dominated by large, heavily lashed eyes. The scenes of the major arcana and court cards are highly detailed and use bright, jewel-like colors. The numbered minor arcana are more basic pips, but even they are highly detailed and extremely colorful. It would be accurate to describe this deck as psychedelic. Sergius Glowing used the deck in his book ’The World of the Tarot’.

from the booklet — These Tarot cards were painted between 1968-1974 by the gipsy painter Walter Wegmüller who now lives in Basle and who has been involved with the symbols handed down by his forebears since his childhood. Even today he can be seen on market days as a traveling salesman, a street artist, a story-teller and a diviner.
During the time he was working on these 78 pictures, the 22 trump or Major Arcana cards and the 56 Minor Arcana cards, Wegmüller associated himself with Sergius Golowin. This writer and collector of legends spent all of the 1960s travelling around the South of France, Switzerland and southern Germany in search of the living traditions of the gipsies.

The photos accompanying this post are actual scan/photos of this deck. These cards are in ‘like-new’ condition, but the box has some wear on the corners. It is listed for sale on the internet from $274.00 to $375.00.
